Before I begin to write
this, I gave an awkward glance at the questions above as I had very difficult
time on how to answer the very first question “Who am I?” At first I thought I would be able answer
it but every time I read it over and again, I realized this 3 words paired together is one of the hardest
question to answer. I even had that wildest idea to seek a good answer just
from somewhere else, or ask someone to write it for me. But I thought “why not
I give it myself?” And I made up my mind to do it my way as nobody knows me
better than my own self (for sure.).
My name is Jamtsho
Dorji but I prefer being called as Jamso. I was born and brought up in Dagana
where my census is registered. I am the 2nd youngest out of eight
children, quite a big family but a happy family at last. My schooling timelines
include Daga MSS, Babesa MSS, Yangchenphu HSS and finally a year repeat in Kelki
that paved my way to Sherubtse College. Sherubtse is a prestigious college in
Bhutan and institution to grow up physically and mentally. That is what I am
doing here (haha.)
Here in Sherubtse
College, I am doing my B.A in media studies in combination with Dzongkha. Media
studies and journalism is second thing after writer , which I have on my mind
since my high school days. Back then, everyone would tell me that I cannot
achieve it and to divert my aim to something else. But I now have a sense of
pride that I am doing what others think it’s impossible especially in Bhutan.
Practicing journalism is an interesting field to nurture your growth of wisdom
as we are provided with available resources and resource persons including
media persons and people who made significant contributions to the growth and
development of media in Bhutan.
Sherubtse College
provides me with adequate time to mould myself into a future media person. Our
daily lecturers as well as guest lecturers would remind us that we are the makers
of vibrant democracy in Bhutan through our reports, news and information that
we will broadcast and publish it in the best interest of all Bhutanese society.
Their words and encouragement would make us believe that we really can be the
watchdog to our nation and people. So what I am doing here is going to define
me by enriching myself with wisdoms and knowledge, so that I can be a fully
equipped media person and a journalist once I complete my studies (fingers
crossed.)
So the final question
becomes a tricky one out here. Where am
I heading? Hmmm I exactly don’t even know where I am heading to, but believe me
I am not going to get lost somewhere or struck in someplace given my
concentration in B.A in media and journalism. The course is the newest
inclusion in Bhutan University by RUB. I firmly believe that being a democratic
nation; it is felt that media can play a big role in making it successful
politics, so we are trained here in Sherubtse right now and to be an effective
key player in making democracy vibrant and successful in future. I am heading into
a realistic future that calls me to be a watchdog to my nation sooner than later
(but who knows).
